The number of students leaving law school has been rising each year. At the same time, many law firms now operate with fewer lawyers. As a result, the number of available training contracts and vacation schemes on offer has been steadily decreasing, and competition, which has always been high, has increased to unprecedented levels.
To successfully obtain a training contract or vacation scheme, it is important that a candidate has clear guidance on how best to approach the application process. Both in terms of completing application forms, and ensuring success at assessment centres, it is crucial that candidates are as well prepared as possible.
With this in mind, we offer a two-tiered service that helps us to focus our advice at any given time. We also work on a bespoke basis, so that all sessions are tailored to the individual needs and experiences of every candidate we meet.
- Initial stage – Training Contract/Vacation Scheme Applications. This is made up of three sessions. The first outlines a candidate’s individual circumstances and background. We go through application deadlines and provide guidance on writing successful applications. We also teach how to research firms accurately; with a special focus on application and selection criteria. The second and third sessions provide bespoke advice and guidance on the progress of individual applications. These follow-up sessions can be held in person or on Skype
- Secondary stage – Training Contract/Vacation Scheme Assessment Centre Preparation Workshops:(i) Human Resource interviews: (60-minute session)
(ii) Partner interviews, including commercial questions: (90-minute session)
(iii) Commercial acumen written exercises/group exercises: (90-minute session)
(iv) Written tests training (psychometric, verbal reasoning (e.g. SHL, Watson Glazer etc.). These sessions include practice tests.
The above assessment centre preparation sessions can be taken individually or all together as a one-day ‘bullet session’.
